Notes | Sunday 15th September 1940. At 8.30 p.m. a very heavy bomb made a direct hit on the main corridor immediately south of the Central Hall, penetrating to the basement and causing the collapse of the Medical Out-Patients Block and the sitting room of the College House, wrecking the Kitchen, Canteen, Dispensary and Administrative Block and putting all the essential services of the Hospital out of action. Fire broke out in the Dispensary Laboratory but was quickly tackled and put out by the Fire Brigade. Another doctor and a nurse also lost their lives in this incident. |
