Death of Srgt.-Pilot Sykes, Bow Vicar Bereaved, Bishop officiates at Service
Men of the Australian Air Force with whom he had flown, bore the coffin of Sergeant-Pilot David Wilson Sykes, the eldest son of Rev. and Mrs. J. Newton Sykes, of Tredegar Road., Bow, at his funeral, on Monday.
Sergeant-Pilot Sykes met his death in an accident. Aged 22, he was born in Vancouver, where his father (the Vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Bow, was then ministering). When the family came to Bow, the lad attended Coopers’ Company’ s School, in Tredegar-square, and later went on to King’ s College, London. As a second year Theological student he was exempt from military duties, but he volunteered for the Air Force, qualifying as a pilot. … … … ..
