Sokolow, George Stanislaus
Mr. George Sokolow, who has been killed by enemy action was a promising member of the BBC editorial staff. He took his degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge five years ago at the early age of 20, then he went on to King’ s College, London where he studied literature and journalism. He was the only son of Mr. Florian Sokolow, who has been London correspondent of the Gazeta Polska since 1932. His grandfather, the late Nahum Sokolow, became a British subject over a generation ago. He was a friend of the late Lord Balfour and played an important part in the origins and first development of the Zionist experiment.
Mr. George Sokolow who was killed, by enemy action, whilst at his post, was the only son of Mr. Florian Sokolow, the well known Polish publicist, and grandson of the late Zionist leader, Dr. Nahum Sokolow. He was only 25 years of age and was a brilliant and promising young man. Born in Warsaw, he studied in Great Britain and graduated at Cambridge. In spite of his youth he had already distinguished himself as a gifted student of science and as a journalist in the Polish language as well as in the English. The Times 25 Oct. 1940
