MacKenzie, James
James Mackenzie (Faculty of Engineering) was killed in action on May 16th. Born at Kansas City, Missouri on October 1st, 1894, he was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto, from September 1905 till June 1913, being in the sixth form in his last year. He obtained a small scholarship on going from the lower to the upper school in September, 1908. He matriculated for McGill's University, Montreal, passing first of the boys who went up from Upper Canada College but owing to a breakdown in health he never went there. He was in the Faculty of Engineering at King's for the Michaelmas Term, 1914. Being gazetted 2nd Lieut. To the Scots Guards on December 23rd, 1914, he went to the front on March 18th, and was posted to the 2nd Batt. Scots Guards. He was killed in action on May 16th, and is buried near Rue Quinque. Cause of death | KiIled in action. His body was found 9 days later beyond the orchard at the head of his dead men and surrounded by a large number of dead enemy. He was still holding his revolver tightly clasped indicating he was killed instantly. |
