Lewis, Walter Harding
Private Walter Harding Lewis, H.A.C. S. Chas. Lewis Esq., of 26 Vicarage Road, Tottenham, has forwarded the following account of his son's career. "Walter Harding Lewis was educated at Merchant Taylor's School. After leaving school he entered King's College in the Arts Faculty, taking his B.A. degree (Class. Hons.) in 1911. He was also elected an Associate of King's College. He then took a classical mastership at Galway Grammar School., where he remained for two and a half years, leaving there to take up a classical mastership at Windermere Grammar School. He enlisted in the H.A.C. in April 1915, and was wounded on September 30th of that year. In January, 1916, he rejoined and went again to the Front, being attached to the Lewis Gun Section. From a comrade's letter it appears that he was wounded in the head on the evening of May 25th, 1917, and died at the Casualty Clearing Station the following day. He is buried at Aubigny."
