NotesOn 1911 census shown as Civil Engineer born Ireland in Indian Service, wife Cora née Faulkner born in India. Son Edward aged 14 and Daughter aged 13 born India. Staying at 8 York Terrace, Cheltenham. George and Cora shown as arriving from India on P & O S.S. Khiva arriving UK 6 June 1915. They were married in Bhagalpur 25 March 1883 (FIBIS,com). On college entry form as living at 22 Bedford. Paid £18.15.6d for Fee, Matriculation and box for Cap & Gown.
The Times Jan. 10th 1916 - Killed in action, Disney. On the 4th January, lost overboard at sea, from the H.M.S. Arethusa, Lieutenant Commander Edward Ogle Disney, R.N. only son of Mr and Mrs George W. Disney, at Highlands, Brentwood, and formerly of Behar and Assam, India aged 29. [no one else killed on the Arethusa that day].
The Times Jan. 4th 1917 - In Memoriam. Disney – In loving memory of Lieutenant Commander Edward Ogle Disney R.N. H.M.S. Arethusa, lost overboard at sea on active service, 4th January 1916.
There was another similar entry on the 4th Jan. 1918
The Times Jan. 5th 1918 Deaths: Disney. On the 4th January at 23 Nottingham-place W1 after a short illness, George William Disney, formerly of Behar and Orissa. Funeral at Highgate Cemetery on Monday at 1.30 p.m.
Edward Ogle definitely did not come to King's but neither did his father die as a result of the war. From Edward's obituary in De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour he was the only son of George William Disney, V.D. Member Irish Civil Engineers, and Major (Retired) Behar Light Horse.
