Notes

Letter from his father to King’s College dated 23 April 1949.

My son Harold Norman Carter was born 4th April 1914 and passed on to Higher Service 12 Jan. 1945. Previous to attending King’s College, he was at Sir Walter Dr. John’s School, Battersea, where during his last year he obtained his Higher School Cert. with exemption from Inter B.A. Your records will show that he passed his Inter L.L.B., but the war somewhat hindered his studies. At the time of entering the Service he was engaged with the Westminster City Council as their Re-housing officer.

He joined the R.A.F. as an Aircraftsman, and at the time of his death was a Corporal. He came home on 31st Dec 1944 on leave, but was unwell. Eventually he passed away on 12th Jan from meningitis. We afterwards learnt that at Boscombe Down - his camp other cases of the same complaint were notified in December and January. His widow now receives a Service Pension.
You will no doubt be able to find his keenness in Athletics in your records.
