Awarded Ettle's scholarship by University of Edinburgh (most distinguished student); awarded gold medal 1871 for his thesis on the structure of lamina spiralis membranacea. Co-editor for the UK and International archives of Otology 1890 - 1908. His services were requisitioned during WWI to work at King's.
