Notes
Trustees of British Museum would not allow Coxe to hold the professorship together with his post at the museum - hence his short tenure. Corresponded with William Henry Fox Talbot between 1862 and 69 about items in the British Museum mainly from Middle East, principally cuneiform script in which he was an expert.
