Description
Photograph of part of an encampment in the foreground two men are sitting - Melton Prior, the Illustrated News correspondent, and Colonel Hutchinson of The Times, at Maidan. The man on the rightis sitting on what appears to be case tied with rope. He is in uniform, he wears a pith helmet. He is bearded and has a cigarette in his right hand, his left hand is resting on his left knee. The gentleman to his left is sitting on rolled up tents, he is concentrating on writing in a small notebook. Behind the men there is a tent and beyond that a framework of some description which has smaller pieces of material on it. In the background to the left of the picture can be seen two men in tradiotnal dress wearing turbans, on the horizon is a mountain range.
