Group photograph of Iraqi soldiers. The caption on the front of the photo, written by Lt Aubrey Lees, reads: "Hd Qrs Troop with clerk and S.A. [?]." On the reverse he continues "The man sitting marked with a cross over its head is Mhowis Abdulla the son of an extremely rich and fairly influential sheik. He is our only real Bedouin Arab. Why such a well to do chap and a tribesman ( and as such infinitely superior to the casteless town arabs) should come to [Levies] is a mystery to me. He has four wives legitimately and goodness knows how many more others, so you see, he is quite a swell!" Part of a collection of photographs from Lees' time in Iraq [1922-1925].
