A collection of photographs relating the service of Lt Aubrey Trevor Oswald Lees in Iraq during the early 1920s, during the British mandate of the territory following the break up of the Ottoman Empire.
Lees was employed under the Colonial Office with the Arab and Kurdish Levies in 1922; commanded a Squadron of the 1 and 2 Regiments of the Iraq Levies, 1922-1924 and was a Special Service Officer (Intelligence), attached to the RAF at Ramadi, 1924-1926.
The photographs capture a sense of daily life and the importance of ethnic distinctions in the country.
