Item Reference: Lt Colonel George Woods' India album/13

Description

Album page from Woods' leave in 1893 to visit his brother in Assam and to visit Darjeeling. Photograph of a railway bridge over a gauge captioned "The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway; Height 4000 ft. When I visited Darjeeling this bridge had been completely washed away by the tremendous volume of water which always rushes down this gorge after heavy rain. A foot bridge had been constructed and a train was waiting on the further side of the 'break', June 1893." From a photograph album of collected photographs in the period Sep 1889-Jul 1894.
