Description

Photograph of Turkish shell bursting among wrecked boats at West Beach, Suvla Bay, prior to evacuation. The caption on the reverse reads "One of the last scenes at West Beach, Suvla. What they left of it was of no value at all but old iron, and the Turks will never be able to take anything away because our destroyers are always worrying them with their searchlights and guns. A large shell is seen ploughing up the water from the Turkish guns." No 5121. From a collection of official photographs of the Dardanelles Expedition, 1915-1916.
