This first selection of items from the scrapbook of British naval surgeon Basil Alderson describes his life on board various ships in British waters and the Mediterranean in the early months of 1938.

Items include a Sea Scouts' theatre programme and photographs of Malta, scouts and of officers and individual vessels while at sea. Alderson also lists the illnesses he encountered on board ship (no date).

It also includes newspaper cuttings relating to the murder of Squadron Leader Ronald Alderson in Palestine.
