This is the first extract of a journal compiled by Basil Alderson, a Surgeon Lieutenant and midshipman on board the aircraft carrier, HMS GLORIOUS, 1935-1936.
The journal comprises manuscript entries, photographs, drawings and sketch maps detailing daily life on board ship, exercises and training involving carrier aircraft. Alderson's duty in the ship's sick bay is described, along with officers' varied social life including sport, meals, cocktail parties and shore leave, not least in Alexandria, Egypt.
