Clarissa resigned her appointment as Matron of the Foundling Hospital at the end of 1892 in order to obtain a thorough rest from work and anxiety, as her health had deteriorated. She recovered and in 1898 The Council acknowledged the valuable services she had given to the Children's and General Hospital, Walthamstow, as much of the efficiency of the hospital was due to her.
