In the 1881 census Effie is living in a boarding house with 2 siblings, she is described as a scholar. In the 1891 census she is living at 84 Tite Street, Chelsea described as niece, aged 26 and as a hospital nurse. After she married William Percy Nicol in 1898 in London, they went to South Africa. 2 daughters were born, one in 1900 who died at 6 years of age in South Africa, the other born in 1904 lived until 1988, back in the UK. Effie died in South Africa in 1918 aged 53 years.
