Conflicting claims and war
Cover of pamphlet, The British Army in the Falklands, 1982. © Crown Copyright 1983, reproduced under the terms of the Open Government Licence.Listed below are two pamphlets from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office collection, illustrating aspects of the islands' history in the 20th century. An Argentine government publication from 1948 reasserts its claim to the islands, still today enshrined in the constitution, while the pamphlet shown on the right analyses the victorious role of the British Army in the short bloody Falklands War of 1982.
