Readership
The readership of “If you ask me” is mostly undocumented.
However, in March 1963 it claimed an audience of 4,000 readers. The leaflets were sent free of charge and subscription was made by writing to the editor with name, address and occupation. It is stated that readership also included schoolboys who used the periodical to answer questions in their schoolwork.
This periodical is an excellent resource for those interested in British propaganda about its colonies and the Commonwealth, colonial and post-colonial study and those interested in development. As far as we can tell it is unique to the FCDO Historical Collection.
