In 1910, seven years after the first powered, manned flight by the Wright Brothers, Douglas Scott Montagu, a leading writer and theorist on air power, predicted the likely transformative role of aircraft.

He suggested their use for attack, reconnaissance, survey work, transport and in supporting the administration of Empire.
