The Silvestri Phenomenon exhibition

On 2 November 2019, just months before the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, King’s College London hosted a major event marking the 50th anniversary of the death of renowned conductor and composer, Constantin Silvestri, and the completion of the transfer of a substantial portion of his archive to King’s, along with that of Silvestri’s biographer, the late John Gritten.

The Silvestri Phenomenon event comprised an exhibition on his life and career, as well as a piano recital, an expert roundtable discussion, and a screening of three films of Silvestri. 

The celebration was co-sponsored by King’s Archives and Research Collections, the Constantin Silvestri International Foundation, the London Schubert Players Trust, the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, Steinway & Sons, Romanian Medical Society UK, Radio Romania Muzical, and the Enescu Museum in Bucharest. A parallel event then took place in Bucharest on 6 November, supported by the British Council and the Romanian National Radio.
