Episode 7 - BACCHANALIA
Introduction by Anda Anastasescu
Bacchanalia – the ingenious piece which ends Piano Suite No. 3 spectacularly - is also proof of Silvestri’s advanced musical language and his extraordinary rhythmic sense. Enter Silvestri himself, who expresses his thoughts on Music and his approach to performing. We hear him rehearse with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and produce magical moments in recordings with Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony and Elgar’s In the South.
Silvestri reveals the profound emotional effect that Enescu’s music had on him, which led to his legendary performances and recordings, the most memorable being the Romanian Première of the opera Oedipe in 1958 in Bucharest, before living the country forever.
