1910; educated at Huddersfield College and Leeds University; commissioned into Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1939; served in HMS GLOUCESTER and HMS ORION, World War Two, 1939-1945; transferred to Royal Navy in 1946; Rear Admiral, 1962; Director of Engineering and Training Division, Admiralty, and Deputy Chairman of Naval Engineering officer, 1962-1965; retired in 1965; died in 1987.

Placed in the Centre by the family in 1991.

Papers relating to service in HMS GLOUCESTER, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, World War Two, including photocopy of diary, 1939-1940, naval messages, 1940-1943, and photographs; official service records, 1941-1958; and papers relating to naval career, 1949-1964, including article dated 1965, 'A Perspective View of Naval Engineering', on the Electrical Branch of the Royal Navy.
