Born in 1871; served in Benin, West Africa, 1897; Superintendent of Signals Schools, 1911; Naval Assistant to 2nd Sea Lord, 1916; served in World War One, 1914-1917; commanded HMS WARSPITE in Battle of Jutland, 1916; R Adm, 1918; President of Ordnance Committee, 1920-1923; retired list, 1923; died in 1951.

Presented to the Centre by George Patrick John Rushworth Jellicoe, 2nd Earl Jellicoe in 1986.

Copies of papers relating to his naval career, 1886, 1890 and 1916, some dated 1930, principally comprising an undated account of the role of HMS WARSPITE in the Battle of Jutland, 31 May-1 Jun 1916, written by Cdr Humphrey Walwyn.
