PROVENANCE

The collection was given to Liddell Hart by Lubinski in 1967 and was incorporated into Liddell Hart's reference material. The Liddell Hart collection was purchased by King's College London in 1973.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The papers of Col Karol Lubinski relate to the Military Intelligence Research Section of the War Office, which was formed under MI14 in May 1943 to exploit order of battle and other intelligence from captured German documents. The Military Intelligence Research Section was an Anglo-American organisation and had branches in London and Washington DC. The papers consist of examples of German air-dropped propaganda leaflets, 1940-1944 (15/13/3); typescript Military Intelligence Research Section intelligence appreciations on German military units, organisation and equipment, Sep 1943-Jun 1944, and special tactical studies, on aspects of German training, tactics and methods, Jul 1944-Apr 1945 (15/13/2) by Lubinski, and correspondence with Liddell Hart, May-Jun 1967.

ARRANGEMENT

The papers of Col Karol Lubinski constitute section 15/13 of the papers of Capt Sir Basil Liddell Hart. From Apr 1943 Lubinski kept typescript copies of any tactical studies or intelligence appreciations written by him. Lubinski was in correspondence with Liddell Hart between 1966 and 1968, with Lubinski sending Liddell Hart the papers in Jun 1967, in the hope they would be of interest and could be added to his collection of military papers. The original order was retained by Liddell Hart and subsequently when the whole of the Liddell Hart archive was originally catalogued by Stephen Brooks between 1973 and 1975. This arrangement has been retained in the present catalogue, Jan 1998.
