- Administrative / Biographical history
A Department of History and Philosophy of Science was established at University College London when the study of the history of science became popular during the 1950s. The first students were admitted to Chelsea College in 1964 and a Department was created in 1966. It was transferred to King's College London when Chelsea and King's merged in 1985 and in 1993 became part of the Department of Philosophy in the School of Humanities.

- Scope and content
The records of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at King's College London comprise minutes, correspondence and reports, 1964-1992. These notably include minutes of the committee charged with setting up a department at Chelsea College, 1964; Chelsea College Academic Board minutes, 1966-1969; School of Humanities minutes, 1990-1992; University of London Board of Studies in History and Philosophy of Science minutes, 1990; daily general correspondence on joint courses, research assessment, libraries and with other universities, 1989-1992; correspondence relating to course structure, seminars and joint degrees, 1965-1978, correspondence on the strategic development of the Department, 1981-1982, merger negotiations, 1983-1985, examinations, 1987-1988, University of London Board of Studies, 1987-1991; Departmental annual reports, 1968-1972.
