- Administrative / Biographical history
The Modern Greek Department was established in 1919, when the Koraes Chair was inaugurated following a subscription campaign and a grant from the Greek Government, and named in honour of Adamantios Koraes (1748-1833), the scholar and advocate of Greek national independence. The Department became known as the Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies in 1972, and since 1989 has been part of the School of Humanities.

- Scope and content
King's College London Department of Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies undergraduate student files, 1974-1993 (K/BMG/FP), postgraduate student files, 1972-1993 (K/BMG/FPPG). Undergraduate files typically contain an UCCA (Universities Central Council on Admissions) form, enrolment forms, some termly reports, correspondence, references, attendance/mark sheets and course unit registration forms. Postgraduate files include an application for admission as a postgraduate student, postgraduate reference form and correspondence.

Postgraduate student files are organised by year of entry, then alphabetically within each year. Undergraduate files are boxed alphabetically.

Subject to an eighty year closure period from date of leaving, but may be consulted by Departmental staff and other appropriate College staff with permission from the Head of Department.

Copies, subject to the condition of the original, can be supplied to Departmental staff. Requests to publish original material should be submitted to the Director of Archive Services, King's College London.
