Administrative / Biographical history

Born in 1834, entered Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1854/1955, worked as Demonstrator of Anatomy at Guy's following his graduation until c 1866. Practiced as Surgeon in Exeter where he was Surgeon at the West of England Eye Infirmary, and member of staff and Senior Surgeon at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Died in 1902.

Small decorative bound photograph album, inscribed in pencil in front cover 'The staff of Guy's Hospital, 1863, Jas. Bankart', containing small black and white photographs of clinical, surgical, academic, and administrative staff of Guy's Hospital, identified by name, office, with some dates of tenure annotated. Includes photographs of Edward Cock, Dr Barlow, John Hilton, George Owen Rees, John Birkett, Sir William Withey Gull, Alfred Poland, Samuel Osborne Habershon, John Cooper Forster, Sir Samuel Wilks, Thomas Bryant, Frederick William Pavy, Mr Durham, Henry Oldham, Dr Hicks, Mr Bader, Mr Hinton, Alfred Swaine Taylor, Dr Odling, Mr Salter, Mr Johnson, Dr Moxon, James Bankart, Mr Stocker, Dr Fagge, Mr Turner, Dr Hule, and Mr Goldstone.
