122 THE LIBRARY SPECIAL COLLECTIONS The main bookstock is supplemented by number of special collections acquired by gift bequest or purchase The most notable is the library of Dr William Marsden sometime Secretary of the Navy which contains many rare items in wide variety of languages It includes the only known copy of Genesis in the Algonquin language printed at Cambridge Massachusetts in 1655 full list of special collections is given in the Library Guides MANUSCRIPTS This collection reflects the work and interests of members of the College and comprises both private papers and wide variety of material of literary historic and scientific interest The collection is described in Manuscripts and private papers select guide 1982 £1 00 The collection has been further augmented through the College's recent notable acquisition of the archive of the Adam International Review LIDDELL HART CENTRE FOR MILITARY ARCHIVES The Liddell Hart Centre for Military Archives forms part of the College Library and serves as depository for papers bearing on Britain's defence policy since 1900 and her strategy in the two world wars The collection is described in the Consolidated list of accessions 1981 available from the Centre at £2 50 KING'S COLLEGE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY Opening Hours The Library is usually open from 9am-7pm Monday-Friday inclusive throughout the year Library Instruction Introductory tours and talks are arranged for new medical and dental students Similar introductions are arranged individually for postgraduates research workers and medical and dental staff when they become members of the Library Guide to Library Services is given to each new member Special Collections The Medical School Library at Denmark Hill houses the Lister Collection of books by and about Joseph Lister as well as volumes and surgical instruments which he owned There is Rare Book Collection of medical texts dating from the 15th Century and King's Collection of books by and about King's men and women
