General Information 87 GENERAL FACILITIES The following information refers to the Strand site Details of facilities at Denmark Hill are to be found in the King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry Prospectus Refectories These are situated in the Macadam Building and are available to staff and student members of the College They normally provide light refreshments luncheons and teas from 30 to 45 on weekdays in term time There is some curtailment of the service during vacations Counselling and Information The Student Adviser's Office which is Room 106 Macadam Building has two main functions First it is place where students can talk in confidence about any personal matter that may be worrying them eg difficulty in getting down to study family relationships or feeling unsettled Counselling often involves helping person to develop new insights or to see new connections between past and present Many students need help in meeting variety of new challenges consequent upon their new independent life at university The Student Adviser's counselling work is part of larger network of help given to students by their tutors and other members of staff Thus close co-operation with staff is important Secondly the Office provides advice and information on wide variety of subjects ranging from study skills transferring course and managing money to social facilities and employment regulations for overseas students covenants and information on contraception drugs and alcohol Information sheets are available from the Office throughout the year not only for students but for any staff who would find the information useful to give to students The Chaplain Room 6B Main Building is also available for personal counselling solicitor visits the Students' Union once week to help with legal problems This service is provide by the Union and is free Student Health The Medical Centre on the third floor of the Macadam Building is staffed by the College Medical Officer Dr Terry the College Psychotherapists Dr Forster and Ms Dunn and Sister O'Neill Opening hours are 30 to 00 on weekdays when the College is open Dr Terry attends on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 00 to 00 Dr Forster attends on Wednes- days only and Ms Dunn on Mondays only Sister O'Neill is present
