Lihrary Facilities 157 WESTMINSTER CITY LIBRARIES As King's College lies within the City of Westminster students enjoy the privilege of using the lending services of the Westminster City Libraries To take advantage of this facility the student must complete an application form obtainable from any public library in Westminster and get it countersigned by recognised officer of the College The nearest public library to King's is the district library at Charing Cross Road WC2 There are special libraries dealing with medicine at Marylebone Library Marylebone Road NW1 music at the Central Music Library Victoria Library in Buckingham Palace Road SW1 and fine arts reference at the Central Reference Library in St Martin's Street WC2 Special collections are available of modern foreign languages at Mayfair Library South Audley Street Wi education and military history at Maida Vale Library Sutherland Avenue W9 and English literature and fine arts at Victoria Library Collections of gramophone records including language records as well as cassettes are available for home playing from Charing Cross and Marylebone Libraries and from Paddington Library Porchester Road W2 Cassettes are also available at Pimlico Library Rampayne Street SW1 Queen's Park Library Harrow Road W9 and Maida Vale Library Reference libraries which may be used by any member of the public without formality are situated in St Martin's Street WC2 Marylebone Library and Paddington Library Quick reference collections are available in all lending libraries except Charing Cross OTHER PUBLIC LIBRARIES Most other London boroughs have good reference libraries which are open to all members of the public and students may of course apply to join and borrow from the public library serving the area in which they live or lodge VACATION USE OF OTHER UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES Arrangements can usually be made for students to use university libraries near their homes in vacation Application for such facilities should be made to the Librarian of King's College
