Faculties and Courses of Study 103 In the cases of French German Portuguese and Brazdian Studies and Spanish the candidate will also be required to take subsidiary subject The course extends over three years of fud-time study in College except in the case of Modern Greek Portuguese and courses including Archaeology which extend over four Students reading for the degree in French or German are required to spend their third year abroad returning to College for the final year They are accepted only on this condition except in the Department of German where students with certain entrance qualifi- cations may be required to spend four years of study in London Students reading for Spanish are required under arrangements approved and supervised by the Department to spend period of study abroad normally summer term together with six weeks of the corresponding long vacation Those reading for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies are normally required to spend minimum of twenty- four weeks in Portuguese-speaking country Those reading for the Combined Studies degree in Portuguese and Spanish normally spend sixteen weeks in Portugal and four weeks in Spain Students in their first year will be encouraged to attend lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course COMBINED STUDIES Courses will be arranged in the following combinations of subjects honours will be awarded and each course will be of three years' duration except those including Russian German and History Portu- guese and Brazilian Studies and History which are normally of four years' duration French and German Greek and Theology French and Latin History and Portuguese and French and Russian Brazilian Studies French and Spanish Latin and Spanish German and Greek Latin and Theology German and History Mathematics and Philosophy German and Latin Philosophy and Spanish German and Philosophy Philosophy and Theology German and Russian Portuguese Spanish and Latin German and Spanish American Studies Greek and Philosophy Theology and Music Taughr in collaboration with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies
