90 General Information Publications The official handbook giving information about all clubs and societies is issued to members at the beginning of each session The Union newspaper Magus appears fortnightly and contributions are welcomed from any member of the Union King's College London Association Patron General Sir John Hackett cb ll President Miss Joan Bernard Chairman Shaw Hon Treasurer McCormack Hon Secretary Β Dawson sc ph chem The Association exists to encourage past and present members of the College to promote the well-being of the College and to provide members with opportunities of meeting or of keeping in touch with one another and with the College Membership is open to every registered student who satisfactorily completes an approved course for degree diploma or certificate of the University of London or of the College and to other persons who have completed at least three terms as registered students and have had their applications approved by the Association's Council All members both past and present of the academic staff may also become members of the Association number of functions is arranged during the year These include College reception for former students and an annual dinner Members receive the Chairman's newsletter each year and occasional publications such as magazine and Register of Members In addition there are separate branches of the Association for former members of Engineering Laws Chemistry and Theology Further information may be obtained from the egistrar's Office King's College Strand London WC2R 2LS University of London Facilities The following facdities provided by the University of London are also available to students of the College The University Library see page 155 University of London Union The Union provides for social cultural and athletic activities of University of London students at university level supplementing the facilities provided in the college union societies It fields representative teams in various branches of sport and awards the University of London 'Purple' the Union encourages
