172 Library Facilities OTHER LIBRARY FACILITIES THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY All students of King's Codege are entitled to use the University of London Library which is situated in the Senate House with entrances from Malet Street and RusseU Square WC1 Before using the University Library student must obtain library ticket which is issued there on production of official evidence that the student is member of the CoUege or University his CoUege admission card or Union Society membership card guide to the University Library including the library rules is obtainable and groups of students are conducted round the Library during the first few weeks of the autumn term The University Library contains about mdlion volumes covering all subjects taught in the University but is strongest in Arts subjects and particularly in English literature especiaUy in Shakespearean studies The Library also contains many important special coUections such as the Goldsmiths' library of early economic literature the Durning-Lawrence library of Elizabethan literature the Sterling library of rare English books the Bromhead coUection of works on London and the library of the Family Welfare Association Two reading rooms Middlesex North and Middlesex South con- tain extensive coUections of bibliographical and other reference works There are also periodicals room in which the current numbers of over 000 journals are displayed and back volumes of certain period- icals in frequent demand are available on open access Music library containing books periodicals scores and gramophone records Geography and Geology library including maps History library devoted to English and European history Phdosophy library Psychology library Palaeography room containing comprehensive coUection of facsimiles and catalogues of manuscripts and works on palaeography United States area studies library and Latin-American coUection There is also an open access library of some 50 000 volumes of works in greatest demand in other subjects The Library is provided with microform reading equipment and has well equipped Photographic Section able to undertake most forms of document reproduction the Section has self-service photo- copying machines The hours of opening of the University Library in term and during
