Faculties and Courses of Study 117 final year They are accepted only on this condition except in the Department of German where students with certain entrance qualifi- cations may be required to spend four years of study in London Students reading for Spanish are required under arrangements approved and supervised by the Department to spend period of study abroad normally summer term together with six weeks of the corresponding long vacation Those reading for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies are normally required to spend minimum of twenty- four weeks in Portuguese-speaking country Those reading for the Combined Studies degree in Portuguese and Spanish normally spend sixteen weeks in Portugal and four weeks in Spain Students in their first year will be encouraged to attend lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course COMBINED STUDIES Courses will be arranged in the following combinations of subjects honours will be awarded and each course will be of three years' duration except those including Russian German and History Portu- guese and Brazilian Studies and History which are normally of four years' duration French and German French and Latin French and Russian French and Spanish German and Greek German and History German and Latin German and Philosophy German and Russian German and Spanish Greek and Philosophy Greek and Theology History and Portuguese and Brazilian Studies Latin and Spanish Latin and Theology Mathematics and Philosophy Philosophy and Spanish Philosophy and Theology Portuguese Spanish and Latin American Studies Theology and Music SUBSIDIARY COURSES Courses in the following subsidiary subjects are offered by the appro- priate departments within the College Classical Greek Enghsh French German History Latin Modern Greek Music Philosophy Portuguese and Spanish Certain other subjects may be taken by arrangement Taught in collaboration with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies
