Faculties and Courses of Study 139 COURSES AVAILABLE BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES AND PHARMACOLOGY new course has recently been introduced The changes have resulted from the restructuring of the Medical degree regulations in the Univer- sity of London The College has adopted school-sponsored course incorporating the new requirements of the University and after bearing in mind the results of several recent enquiries into medical education The two Medical schools with which King's College is closely associ- ated have been consulted throughout Significant alterations have been made in the time spent on the traditional subjects of Anatomy Bio- chemistry Physiology and Pharmacology At the same time new subject areas have been introduced namely Biometry and Medical Statistics Genetics Psychology and Sociology An introductory course in Pathology has also been introduced leading to separate course examination In restructuring the course in Basic Medical Sciences and Pharmacology the major emphasis has been given to an endeavour to produce the maximum integration of teaching between disciplines School-based University examinations are held at the end of the third and sixth terms Stage and Stage II respectively In-course assessment how- ever plays significant part in determining student competence After completing the Stage II examinations successful candidates proceed to their clinical training at one of the following hospital medical schools King's College Hospital Medical School Denmark Hill London SE5 8RX Westminster Medical School Horseferry Road London SW1 SECOND COURSE The course of study leading to the second examination in Dental Surgery extends over three to four terms and includes the study for an examination in General and Special Anatomy Biochemistry and Physiology the emphasis being placed particularly on the aspects of those subjects which are relevant to dentistry After completing the second examination in Dental Surgery successful candidates proceed to their clinical training at King's College Hospital Dental School Denmark Hill London SE5
