116 Faculties and Courses of Study Latin and Classical Archaeology Latin with Greek Greek with Latin History Religious Studies Modern Greek Spanish Modern Iberian and Latin American Regional Studies In the cases of French German Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and Spanish the candidate will also be required to take subsidiary subject The course extends over three years of full-time study in College except in the case of Modern Greek Portuguese and courses including Archaeology which extend over four Students reading for the degree in French or German are required to spend their third year abroad returning to College for the final year They are accepted only on this condition except in the Department of German where students with certain entrance qualifi- cations may be required to spend four years of study in London Students reading for Spanish are required under arrangements approved and supervised by the Department to spend period of study abroad normally summer term together with six weeks of the corresponding long vacation Those reading for Portuguese and Brazilian Studies are normally required to spend minimum of twenty- four weeks in Portuguese-speaking country Those reading for the Combined Studies degree in Portuguese and Spanish normally spend sixteen weeks in Portugal and four weeks in Spain Students in their first year will be encouraged to attend lectures in at least one subject other than those which form an integral part of their degree course COMBINED STUDIES Courses will be arranged in the following combinations of subjects honours will be awarded and each course will be of three years' duration except those including Russian German and History Portu- guese and Brazilian Studies and History which are normally of four years' duration French and German German and History French and Latin German and Latin French and Russian German and Philosophy French and Spanish German and Russian German and Greek German and Spanish Taught in collaboration with the School of Slavonic and East European Studies
