106 General Information of King's Organisation for Student Community Action The sovereign body of the Union is the General Meeting which meets about three times term and its decisions are final for the Executive are elected by the student body and are therefore responsible to them Two grades of clubs and societies exist for the benefit of the members 'approved' and affiliated' The finances of the latter are entirely administered and directed by the Union Society whilst those of the former are not in any particular the responsibility of the Union Society The affiliated clubs include The Association Football Athletic Bad- minton Basketball Boats Bridge Chess Cricket Cross Country Fencing Hockey Judo Netball Rifle Rugby Football Sailing Squash Racquets Swimming Tennis and Table Tennis Clubs the Drama society the Film society the Literary society the Mountaineering society the Music society the Photographic society the Folk Dance club The athletic clubs are governed by captains and officers elected by their members The sporting clubs are the responsibility of the Athletics Vice- President who is the chairman of the sub-committee which reports directly to the Executive Committee and deals exclusively with matters affecting the sporting clubs All sports club secretaries sit on this sub- committee The finances of all affiliated societies are under the control of the Executive Committee of the Union Society which with the assistance of its Finance Standing Committee determines the amount of the grant to be made to each club from its funds Throughout term time debates and functions of social nature are arranged with view to promoting the corporate life of the College 'Commemoration Week' is normally held each year at the close of the Michaelmas term when various social functions take place including performances by the Music and Drama Societies Ball and an Intercollegiate debate Commemoration Service is held in the College Chapel and an Oration is given by distinguished speaker The Union Society occupies several floors of the new Macadam Building which provides excellent facilities Publications The official handbook giving information about all clubs and societies is issued to members at the beginning of each session
