Annual Report of the Delegacy lxxxvii FACULTY OF LAWS Faculty Notes The Faculty has achieved long-held ambition which is also the logical outcome of its interest in and involvement with European Law in the creation of Centre of European Law within the Faculty The Centre will be officially inaugurated on October 31st 1974 when Reception will be held for many distinguished visitors in the legal world and representatives of many European countries The Director of the Centre is Professor Chloros Professor of Comparative Law Two other new posts have been specifically assigned to the Centre the Chair of European Law to which Professor Francis Jacobs was appointed and lectureship in the Laws of Europe for which Mrs Jane Giddings was nominated The objects of the Centre are to encourage teaching and research in European Law and to disseminate knowledge of the Common law in other European countries In the context of the Centre European law covers the laws of Europe in its geographical entity rather than in any other narrower grouping of systems according to political or economic criteria Another event worthy of special mention is the appointment of Professor Graveson to the first Chair of Private International Law in the country The Faculty takes special pride in the recognition which has been granted to Private International Law field in which British scholars have made specific and substantial contribution of international significance And of course the Faculty is delighted that the holder of the Chair is Professor Graveson who has long enjoyed an international reputation as an authority in the field Another development is also significant of the diversity of the interests of the Faculty It is the appointment of Dr Mellows to the new Chair of Property Law In this field also the Laws Faculty at King's can claim special interest and distinction The Faculty elected Professor Kiralfy as Dean of the Faculty as from October 1974 and he then nominated Professor Guest as Vice-Dean Professor Dillemans of Leuven University gave lectures in the Faculty as an exchange lecturer as he has done regularly for number of years Professor Grisoli of the University of Pavia also gave Public Lecture at the invitation of the Faculty In April 1974 Professor Graveson Head of Department
