lxxxiv Annual Report of the Delegacy invited to present the charter to the new student branch of at ISEN Professor Jolly initiated research project into teaching methods for first-year undergraduate engineering courses with the transition from sixth form to university in mind He delivered the opening lecture at the Joint Centenary Colloquium on 'The Marconi heritage' He also lectured at the Royal Institution on 'Sir Oliver Lodge' the subject of his recently published biography which has enjoyed highly favourable reviews Members of staff continued to give their services to professional bodies and public institutions Dr Deeley was elected to the Court of Cranfield Institute of Technology and served as External Examiner to Brighton and Middlesex Polytechnics Mr Fraser served as member of the Sub-Committee on Finance of University Examinations and Professor Turner continued as Visiting Examiner to Chelsea College Among the distinguished visitors who came to King's during the session were Professors Ī¤ Everhart Angelakos and Van Duzer from the University of California at Berkeley Dr Cyril Hilsum of Malvern and DrJ Forrest former Director of CERL Leatherhead In his third and final year as Visiting Professor Mr Alan Reddish continued to give valuable assistance which has been greatly appreciated DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING Departmental Notes The department was grieved to learn of the death of Mr Pattison at the age of 71 After varied and distinguished career during the latter part of which he was Vice-Principal of the Kumasi College of Tech- nology in Ghana Robert Pattison came to King's in 1958 and gave outstanding service to the Mechanical Engineering Department until 1968 first as Lecturer and then as Senior Lecturer Afterwards at an age at which most men are content to retire from active life he took up an appointment in Malawi where he worked so hard that in 1970 his health gave way and he was obliged to return to England It is good to know that he made substantial recovery and his last years in the Cotswolds were very happy ones He was favourite everywhere and will be greatly missed Dr Patuwathavithane former student of the department has been appointed Acting Principal at the Hardy Technical Institute
