Annual Report of the Delegacy staff vacancies and this is entirely due to the extra efforts and goodwill of the remaining staff series of six open lectures were arranged throughout the year dealing with ecological and pollution problems in relation to West Sussex and East Hampshire They proved very successful and there were many requests from the general public for their continu- ance Further courses will be arranged for the coming academic year It is hoped that the theme would still have regional bias but it will be necessary to extend outside ecological or conservation themes because of the danger of over-discussion and also because of shortage of speakers It is proposed to invite other departments in King's that is additional to Geography Botany and Zoology to participate The Management Committee after careful survey has adopted long-term policy for the management and development of the grounds in order to preserve balance between the claims of research teaching and visual amenity programme of tree and shrub planting neces- sarily limited by available finance has been planned in order to main- tain and extend micro- and macro-habitats FINANCE The total of grants received from the Court of the University amounted to £3 566 125 compared with £3 243 137 in 1972-73 and also separate earmarked grant of £298 600 was received for the purchase of equipment and furniture The Computer Board grant which is now included in the grant from the Court amounted to £54 000 Fee income was £231 245 compared with £228 465 last year Government Departments various foundations and private firms continued to support research projects and contributed £284 051 The expenses of the academic departments at £2 953 606 showed large increase of £303 891 and reflects the cost of implementing salary revisions in October 1973 together with increased London Allowance and Threshold payments Maintenance of premises showed an increase of £12 303 Halliday Hall showed deficit of £11 577 and the total income for the year amounted to £49 402 King's College Hall showed deficit of £33 255 and the total income for the year amounted to £154 582
