χ Annual Report of the Council The Theological Society held its second meeting in the Strand on the evening of Friday October 26th 1973 when the theme was Psychology Prayer and Pastoral Care the speakers were the Reverend Bryant and the Reverend Leech Some sixty cs gathered to- gether for the Northern Reunion in Carlisle on Tuesday May 7th 1974 the Bishop of Carlisle celebrated and the Dean the Very Rev- erendj Churchill preached at Sung Eucharist in the Cathedral Professor Simon lectured on the theme The Gift of Prophecy in the Church Today king college hostel Two retirements have affected the life of the Hostel Miss Margaret Bond retired at Easter after serving the welfare of students as Domestic Bursar for over 12 years Miss Hanna retired in August after long and faithful period of no less than 35 years as cook It would be impossible to express an adequate appreciation to these two ladies Mrs Winifred Miller has been appointed Domestic Bursar and she joined us in May The student community was varied by the presence of two German students of theology-one Lutheran and the other Roman Catholic The Reverend Professor Simon succeeded the Reverend Pro- fessor Mascall as chairman of the Hostel Committee The in- crease of students' fees to 298 per annum was insufficient to bridge the ever-widening gap between income and expenditure st Augustine's college canterbury The year was marked by considerable drop in the number of Anglican ordinands The College community was enriched by the continuing presence of the Franciscans and for half the year of group of fifteen Redemptorists including three members of staff very satisfactory year resulted with the College course being repeated or remodelled as previous experience suggested An excellent historical exhibition of College archives was prepared by two students for the celebration of St Augustine's Day among the exhibits were letters and documents referring to meetings held for the founding and planning of St Augus- tine's College in the Council Room of King's College when the Reverend Dr Jelf was Principal The departure of the Reverend Hugh Maycock at the end of the year deprived the College of wise and much loved priest of wide interests
