160 Faculties and Courses of Study term they are in schools for five days per week Students are required to carry out preliminary period of observation and practice for three weeks in primary school before the session begins THE POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION COURSE The Postgraduate Certificate in Education course consists of Teaching Practice II Foundation Studies Courses for all students in Philosophy of Education History of Education Educational Psychology Sociology of Education Com- parative Education Health Education Foundation Option course of further study in one of the areas listed in above III Curriculum Studies Principles and Methods of teaching subject of the secondary school curriculum Curriculum Option course of study which aims at using educational theory to elucidate problem of the curriculum School Libraries The Learning of Skill in Games Moral Education in Schools Reading in the Secondary School Health Education and the Human Life Cycle Education for the 16-20 Age Group Science Education Some courses are run on an inter-collegiate basis with the Central Institute of Education With the assistance of the Gulbenkian Founda- tion and the College the Faculty operates mobile television recording unit to associate practical activities in schools even more closely with work done in College During the course arrangements are made for visits to various education institutions in order to enable the student to see wide range of modern educational methods Excellent laboratory facilities are available for practical work in connection widi new developments in the teaching of the sciences geography etc Assessment throughout the course is by means of essays or other approved pieces of work There is no written examination paper The fee for the course comprises all registration and tuition charges and the fee for the assessment but excludes laboratory apparatus deposit for students taking certain subjects Students accepted for the course should apply to their Local Educa- tion Authorities for details of grants and application forms Since the
