Faculties and Courses of Study 57 tests the Faculty places considerable weight on the results of these Applicants for the Mus course are also required to perform and sight-read on their main instrument to show basic facility at the key- board to sing at sight and to comment on passages of music on the gramophone Applicants for the two-year Music Subsidiary course will not necessarily be expected to have obtained Music at 'A' level in the General Certificate of Education Music at Ό' level would be an advantage provided that applicants can show that their interest in and knowledge of the subject has been maintained since taking that exam- ination Candidates should have read fairly widely have good grounding in Harmony and Counterpoint and good knowledge of repertoire All candidates will be interviewed by the Dean of the Faculty and each application will be considered on its merits For the combined studies degree in Theology and Music candidates should have pass in Music at Advanced level and knowledge of Latin or Greek at least to Ό' level would be an ad van- tage For examinations taken in or after summer 1975 the definition of pass would be at grade Β or Postgraduate Courses MUS The course of study for this degree in the branches of Musicology Musical Analysis Composition and Folk Music will extend over at least one academic year and candidates will normally be expected to hold first-class or second-class Mus degree of this University or an equivalent qualification from another University The course of instruction will normally be open only to Internal students The examination for the degree will be held once year and will comprise one written paper course assessment Special Study and viva voce examination PHIL AND PH Students wishing to register as Internal candidates in the Faculty of Music for the Phil or Ph degree are at present required to have obtained the Mus degree or the Mus degree of the University of London or an equivalent degree of another University The minimum period of study is two years Candidates are recommended to refer to the University Regulations for Postgraduate Students proceeding to the degree
