General Information Attendance at Lectures and Examinations In order to qualify for admission to University examinations and for payment of awards and grants students must attend lectures classes tutorials and departmental examinations to the satisfaction of the Head of Department If student is absent from College through illness for period of week or more or for any period involving absence from College or University examination medical certificate should be sent to the Faculty office If the illness is prolonged or infectious final medical certificate should be sent to the Faculty office and its receipt acknowledged before the student's return to College Academic Progress The Dean of any Faculty may refuse to re-admit any student to the College at the commencement of any term on the grounds of the student's lack of ability or industry as well as failure in any degree or other examination relating to any course or failure without adequate reason to enter for an examination after completing the required course therefor or for any other good academic cause In the exercise of his discretion under this paragraph the Dean of the Faculty shall take into consideration any relevant representations made by the student or made on the student's behalf by The Dean of Students the Chaplain or the Medical Officer and the report of the Head of Depart- ment Heads of Department shall ensure that students are made fully aware of the possible consequences of failure to maintain the required academic standard Except for refusal of re-admission upon failure at University examinations no action shall be taken unless the student has received clear warning in writing on behalf of the Faculty at least one term or period equivalent in length in advance of the action which it is proposed to take in the absence of improvement in his academic standard All discretionary powers exercisable in relation to students who have failed to maintain the required academic standard including those who have failed University examinations shall be exercised by the Dean of the Faculty in consultation with the Head of Department and the Sub-Dean or in the case of the Faculty of Medical Science the Adviser of Studies or in the case of the Faculty of Theology by the Dean of the Faculty in consultation with the Dean of the College In no instance shall discretion be exercised adversely to the
