Annual Report of the Delegacy lxxxvii Departmental Notes Professor Arthur returned from year's leave in South Africa where he was Visiting Research Professor to the Tick Research Unit at Rhodes University under grant from the Rhodes University Foundation Trust He gave lecture on 'People Industry and Pollu- tion' at the 135th Annual Meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in Canterbury Dr Cox gave lectures on 'Malaria and cancer' at the North East London Polytechnic on 'Interactions between malaria parasites and viruses' at the British Society for Parasitology at Southampton and chaired the afternoon session at the Summer Parasitology Symposium at Ewell Technical College He was appointed to the Editorial Advisory Board for the Macdonald Ecology encyclopedia Dr Cox gave lectures to the Geological Society of Glasgow and the Biological Society of University College London He was an invited speaker at the First International Congress of Systematic and Evolutionary Biology in Boulder Colorado and contributed to the TV palaeontological series 'Before the Ark' Dr Pye was appointed to the Chair of Neurobiology at Queen Mary College as from October 1st 1973 He sat on planning commit- tees for three international meetings to be held in Kenya and London He gave lectures to Biol course at Sir John Cass College the Mammal Society Bat Group at the London Zoo and the Biology Society of North East London Polytechnic He read paper and chaired part of the Acoustics Session at the rd International Bat Research Conference at Plitvice Yugoslavia Mr Darwin spent two months at Tufts University Boston Mass working on sound production by arctiid moths where he also lectured to the Neurophysiology Colloquium of the Biology Department Dr Whitfield read two papers at the meeting of the British Society for Parasitology one on the use of cytochemical methods in the study on nutrient uptake by ovaries and the other on the biology of an ectoparasitic digenean Transversotrema Dr Sales and Miss Smith produced lecture demonstra- tion for the Biol Course at Sir John Cass College Dr Sales lectured to the Psychology Department 'Round Table' at Bristol University and also attended the European Training Programmes in 'Brain and Behaviour' at Zuoz Switzerland
