lxxviii Annual Report of the Delegacy TV to demonstrate in the New Theatre the operation of Fourier transform spectrometer in laboratory meeting on 'The place of practical work in chemistry' arranged by the Board of Studies in Chemistry was held at King's under the chairmanship of Professor Robertson An intercollegiate research seminar on physical organic chemistry has been initiated by Professor Gold and has met every term alternately at King's and at University College with regular partici- pants from all major London Colleges The Mass Spectrometry Dis- cussion Group held meeting at the College in March 1973 The New Theatre was also the setting for an intercollegiate lecture by Professor Olah of Case Western Reserve University who will be spending part of next session in the Department as newly appointed Visiting Professor Another distinguished visitor who spent short time in the Depart- ment under the auspices of the British Council was Professor Melander of the University of Gothenburg Sweden Senior visitors who contributed to the research work in the Department during the session included Professor Bishop University of Ottawa Professor Fink Amherst Professor Laughton Carleton University Ottawa Professor Stein Memorial University of Newfound- land and Dr Ivasenko Tomsk Polytechnic Institute International collaboration in the opposite direction included number of lectures given by Dr Hall at the conclusion of his study leave at California State University Long Beach These were at the University of California Los Angeles and Santa Barbara the University of Southern California California State University Los Angeles and Rutgers University He read paper at the Northwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society Dr Coe was awarded the Italian Libera Docenza in General and Inorganic Chemistry the decree of which will be deposited at the University of Venice During the year he gave lectures at the Universities of Padua Venice Florence Pisa and Milan On cultural exchange visit to Czechoslovakia arranged by the British Council Dr Chissick gave lectures at the Charles University Prague and at the Technological University of Bratislava In this country Professor Gold gave lectures at the Universities of Aberdeen Bristol Cambridge and Durham He was Distinguished Visitor of the University of Nottingham Chemical Society Professor Mason gave series of four intercollegiate postgraduate lectures on optical activity and spoke on alchemy at Chelsea College Professor
