Annual Report of the Delegacy lxv Departmental Notes During the session Sir Francis Knowles has continued to be member of the Science Board of the Science Research Council and Chairman of its Biological Science Committee He was chosen to be the organiser of the Vlth International Symposium on Neurosecretion and with the aid of Professor Vollrath has made all the plans for this meeting to be held in the Royal Society in September Professor Vollrath and Sir Francis have continued their collaboration with workers in Lund Sweden and with the aid of grant from the Wellcome Trust have extended their European research programme to include workers in the Department of Anatomy Bonn Germany the Department of Anatomy Regensburg the Max Planck Institute Goettingen and also some collaboration with workers at the Station de Recherches de Physiologie Animale Jouy-en-Josas France These contacts have greatly extended the scope of the Anatomy Department's neuroendocrine research team which has this year been able to make considerable advances in the recognition of the probable sites of origin of brain releasing factors engaged in pituitary control Dr Cordingley has continued his researches in the field of macrophage activity He acted as external examiner in the Diploma examinations of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy the Council of Occupational Therapists and the Society of Chiropodists He has contributed number of reviews for the journal 'Physio- therapy' Dr Brown has been elected to Secretaryship of the Preclinical Subjects Sub-committee of the Board of Studies in Dentistry He was the organiser and chairman of meeting of the Cranio-facial Biology Group of the International Association for Dental Research He has given lectures by invitation to the Glasgow Odontological Society the Finnish Dental Society and the Institute of Dentistry of the Uni- versity of Turku Dr Thornton has spent this year at the University of California studying problems of brain-pituitary control Dr Firth has continued his researches on neuroendocrine control and has played prominent part in the reorganisation of the teaching of Cell Biology
