Annual Report of the Delegacy lix Dr Deeley continued to serve on the Council of the British Associa- tion for the Advancement of Science Dr Lindsay was invited to serve as representative of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers on the organising committee of the International Conference on Gas Discharges London 1972 Dr Lindsay was also appointed Editor-Elect of the International Journal of Electronics Dr Burtt became Governor of Notley High Comprehensive School Braintree Essex Professor Jolly who continued to give valuable assistance to the department as part-time visiting teacher completed biography of Oliver Lodge to be published shortly Departmental Notes Dr Ezekwe former student in the department has been appointed Reader in Mechanical Engineering and Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nigeria At the end of the session Dr Prosser left to take up post in Wales with Inspectorate of Schools Dr Prosser first came to King's as an undergraduate in 1958 He was appointed to Lectureship in Mechanical Engineering at King's in May 1965 and quickly showed himself to be most zealous and conscientious teacher He will be greatly missed and his colleagues unite in wishing him success and happiness in his new appointment The department was very pleased to welcome Mr Hales who was appointed Visiting Professor in Mechanical Engineering in succes- sion to Professor Stuart-Mitchell Mr Hales who is Director of the Shipowners Refrigerated Cargo Research Association is also President of the Institute of Refrigeration of Great Britain and Vice- President of the International Institute of Refrigeration He has been responsible for important research and development work on refriger- ated containers and the lectures he has given on Refrigerated Transport of Goods by Sea and Land have provided students and staff with fascinating picture of the problems encountered and surmounted in this most important field Additionally we have been most fortunate in being able to avail ourselves of the services of our Special Lecturer Mr Kellett Mr Kellett is Director of Progress Jets Limited company within the Lucas Organisation He was for many years Chief Engineer of Turbomachinery for Ltd and is well-known authority on small turbines and author of many scientific papers During the session number of distinguished foreign engineers
